There’s something to be said for fairytales. The sort of other-worldly quality they obtain. They’re always full of sweeping romances and epic landscapes, they leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling in your heart, and in their own way, they renew your faith in love. While I’m not one to assume, I think it’s fairly safe to say that nearly everyone has their own version of what their dream wedding will look like. Maybe it all started from the first time you put your pillowcase over your head like a veil and threw a fake bouquet to your stuffed animals, or maybe you never once considered a dream wedding until that engagement ring was in front of you. No matter where the fairy tale starts, though, we know where it ends. Happily ever after. Which is what I’m here to help you achieve. Whatever version of that fairytale may be, having an amazing location to do it is a big start. And when it comes to sweeping landscapes, big skies and fairy tale settings, there’s no place to elope quite like Waskesiu. With views like these, everything is stress-free when you elope in Waskesiu How To Plan A Stress-Free Elopement In Waskesiu When you’re in Waskesiu, it almost feels like you’ve traveled back in time. Back to a time when the houses were simple log cabins, built by hand by the family that lived in it. A time when nature is still fresh, pristine, and seemingly untouched by human hands. It feels like the kind of place where everyone is going to know everyone else and greet you with a smile. Waskesiu is a secret gem, a hidden treasure and in its own special way – a fairytale come true. Now that I’ve sold you on where we need to take a look at the rest of the questions. The main components you need to look at in order to make your wedding happen as smoothly as possible. We’ll take a look at quite a few things, but the main ones we’ll touch on are things like: How to plan an elopement in Waskesiu? Where to elope in Waskesiu? Can you elope in Waskesiu? Most importantly though, and where we will begin is… Can You Elope In Waskesiu? Probably the most important question, right!? LOL Well, the short answer is yes. You can absolutely elope in Waskesiu, and based on what I’ve said here thus far – you definitely should! The long answer, though, is a bit more complicated. There are certain things you have to have in order first to make sure you can get hitched without a … well … hitch. You have to purchase a Saskatchewan marriage license in order to get married in Waskesiu, which at the moment costs $60 Canadian dollars. Once you purchase the marriage license, it’s effective from that day forward, and is only considered valid for 90 days. This means that while pre-planning is your friend most of the time, in this instance, don’t plan too far ahead and purchase the license that much in advance! Also, your clergy or registrant marrying you must be registered to marry someone in Saskatchewan, so make sure you pre-plan for that as well. While those are the biggest requirements, they’re not the only ones. Though some may not pertain to you specifically, just in case, you can take a look at the full list of requirements through the Saskatchewan government website for further details. It will also show you a variety of places where you can purchase the license itself. How To Plan An Elopement In Waskesiu Okay, we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about my favorite part. Photography! I know, I can’t help it! When it comes to planning your big day, thinking about the kind of photos you’d like to have from your event is paramount. We have to think about what time of year would be best for the theme you want. Are you more of a moody winter wonderland person? A dreamer who longs for a Spring-time romance? Into some Summer lovin’, or maybe you just want to aim for a time that’s perfect for Fall-in in love? Whatever the season, the seasons definitely play into wedding photography – and it is yet another reason that I am a Waskesiu wedding advocate. Elopement photography in Waskesiu is magical no matter what time of year because everywhere you look is beautiful. The crystalline lake, the quaint town with its restaurants that offer comfort and love in every bite, the semi-private beaches you can sneak away to for a candid photo shoot – no matter what time of year. But. While the weather isn’t a hindrance to amazing photos – and in fact in winter wonderland-scapes can be a true blessing – it can be a hindrance to the overall planning. If you were aiming for a winter month wedding, it would be best for us to sit down and deep dive into the routes we might have to take, the best way to get to where we want to be, and the warmest way to achieve it all – clothing included. Luckily, that’s why I’m here! Where there’s a will, and a Jasmin, there’s a way! It’s truly a winter wonderland in Waskesiu, Saskatchewan with scenery as pure as the driven snow. Next? Where To Elope In Waskesiu Much like the seasons, where to elope in Waskesiu is really about preference. Are you an indoor or an outdoor person? Would you rather a sunny beach, or a misty forest? Rustic or modern? I know, I keep asking questions, but I promise I have the answers too! These are just all the fun things we get to think about together. I like to ask as many questions to make sure that I understand what you need and want most out of your big moment. With that said! Let’s combine the best of both worlds, and look at one of my favorite all-around choices for a Waskesiu elopement. Elk Ridge Resort The great thing about Elk Ridge Resort? It manages to keep you from having to choose between indoor and outdoor, rustic and modern. The space itself is full of natural light from the amazing setting that surrounds it, but inside it’s simple, modern, sleek – all while maintaining a rustic edge. A brilliant balance between masculine and feminine, in a way, which I really love. Plus, the Elk Ridge Resort also has one of the best elopement packages in Waskesiu, with an on-site staff to ensure that you are taken care of every moment leading up to your big day. `No words needed for how gorgeous a space the Elk Ridge Resort in Waskesiu is. If an outdoor vibe is more what you’re looking for, there are plenty of places to look between the beaches and the forests of the area. While there are a few main beaches that are fairly large tourist attractions, there are a couple more tucked away spots that offer a somewhat more private, but just as beautiful, spot for your elopement photography. Here’s a short list, though there are plenty more places for us to explore as we dive further into it. Paignton Beach This out of the way beach has a mixture of glorious sunsets, quiet beaches, and a myriad of wildlife who might be willing to jump in an impromptu photo shoot. Namekus Lake Reflective waters, fall colours, spring flowers, moody cloudscapes and brilliant sunshine. There aren’t a lot of bad times to visit this ever-changing lake, as each season and weather brings a unique beauty and possibility for stunning elopement photography. Boundary Bog This water side spot has a mixture of beach and forest, replete with hiking trails and a beautiful, wood planked walkway that seems to extend into the forest forever and follow the lake. Perfect photo spots literally everywhere. Narrows Peninsula Trail This forest spot is full of flora, fauna and is a forager’s dream as it houses an abundance of fungus ranging from the fairly common to the rare. Nature hikes and river strolls should definitely be on the elopement itinerary, Waskesiu luckily, is known for having both. Also, I’ll be honest – when it comes to planning, one thing I always look at is where to eat. I think we all get it. Food is comforting, it’s nourishing, and when you’re in a place that you’ve never been, it's good to have a heads up where to go. Helpful hint? Wherever you do decide to elope in Waskesiu, it couldn’t hurt to have one of the photo spots near Restaurant Pietro or Pete’s Terrace aka Pete’s Pizza. Just, you know, throwing that out there. Waskesiu is truly something special. A place that can barely be described, despite all the waxing poetic I just did about it. Truly, it’s a place that should be experienced – during your wedding! Did you just get engaged and you don't even know where to start? Let's be honest, no one is an expert on getting married! BUT, with 10 years of shooting weddings I have some tips on creating a wedding timeline that will work for you! 1. What is the most important thing to you? When you think of your wedding day, what is the most important thing that comes to your mind? Is it an epic party, an intimate first look with vows, or maybe photos at sunset? Think of the most important thing to you and plan around that! 2. Golden Hour Depending on the time of year, "Golden Hour" is the hour before the sun goes down. This creates that soft and warm light that you see on all those Pinterest photos. 3. Daylight If you are getting married in the winter months, your daylight timeline is shorter than summer months, so if you are getting photos, or your ceremony is outdoors make sure you have enough daylight to that isn't happening in the dark! 4. Getting the shots you want! My couples always allot 2-2.5 hours for formal photos. This means, photos with you and your babe, your crew, and anyone else that is special to you. We always have enough time, in fact they always have a little bit of time to hang out and take in the day, because I always finish early. 5. Get rid of all the noise! Everyone will have an opinion about what they think is best! But don't let that steer you away from what you want! If someone says, "2,5 hours is such a long time for guests to wait while you take photos." Simply provide an activity, for guests to experience during that time before cocktail hour. The Fredrich: Immerse yourself in a fine dining experience that brings in the beauty of the Boreal Forest through dishes that tell a story of the flavours of northern Saskatchewan. Sometimes the thought of doing a photo session near water seems like a recipe for disaster....that is so far from the truth! It actually sets the scene for a romantic, almost whimsical experience. 1. The reflection The water is like a natural reflector! It is can bounce off light, mirror subject or the sky. Which creates a really beautiful effect for couples, and ultimately leads to a gorgeous canvas image. 2. Fun and Flirty Getting in the water with your babes is always a good idea! splash, run, and dancing in the water gives all, "The Notebook" vibes! 3. The contrast The contrast between the water and the greens is so rich and beautiful! It adds a definite romantic element to every image! Saskatchewan winters can be brutal to shoot in, but with the right preparations it can be so enjoyable! Tip #1 - Bring winter boots Wear your sorels or hunter boots to the location and then switch to your cute booties once you get to the place where your session will take place. This will prevent your pants and shoes from getting full of snow! Tip #2 - Wear your jacket Wear your jacket and mitts right up until you get your photo taken and in between if you need too. There is no sense in freezing on the way to your session. Tip #3 - Bring hand + feet warmers Seriously! Stick them in your shoes, bra, and hold them in your hands! This will make the cold so much more manageable. Tip #4 - Layer up If you have leggings or a long johns, but them under your pants or dress. AS long as they don't bulk up in any places, go for it. Everyone is happier when they are warm, so layer up my friend! Tip #5 - Reschedule if you need too If the weather is just too cold, reschedule! In fact, camera gear can freeze up if it is not properly taken care of during the session. So, if you can reschedule to a warmer day you fingers and toes will thank you! Capture the magic of a Saskatchewan winter I am always up for a winter engagement session! Although, if the weather is freezing, reschedule! And always remember to layer up, bring your boots and winter jacket, and pack hand warmers.

You want to pull off the ultimate surprise?! Plan a wedding without any friends are family knowing. Seriously! The look of shock and excitement on their faces will be something you will NEVER forget. That is exactly what Mic + Nicole did. They planned what everyone thought was a birthday party for Nicole, but actually was a wedding. How freakin' cool is that?! We kept this secret for months! With only a handful of people knowing. The day of the wedding, myself along with a team of wonderful creatives surrounded Nicole with love and support while she got ready. I tied her into her dress, and away she went to do personal and heartfelt vows with Mic and her little girls right by their side. Following Mic went ahead and greeted all the guests and made everyone believe this was a gathering for Nicole's birthday. When Nicole arrived, she wanted to surprise her parents first, so they could then walk her down the aisle. This moment brought tears to my eyes, the look of excitement, joy, and pride they had for her was indescribable. After the tears were wiped and the initial shock that their daughter was getting married settled, they walked her down the aisle. This is when is gets even better! As Nicole and her parents came down the aisle the room filed with gasps and cheers! Everyone was so surprised. I had goosebumps from my heads to my toes. They continued the evening with saying, "I Do's" and dancing the night away, and signing off with a sparkler exit. Together they pulled off the ultimate surprise. Tip #1 - shop early We suggest starting the shopping process one year in advance and making sure your gown is ordered with no less than ten months in advance to avoid additional fees. With that said, there are many other ways to find a dress that make shorter timeframes still very easy to work with! The tightest timeframes we’ve worked with is less than 24 hours! Tip #2 - give yourself some time Ordering in a wedding gown takes six months, now this answer can vary from shop-to-shop It's best to confirm those details before booking your appointment. Also, there are gowns available for immediate purchase to side step the ordering process! Brides should book their wedding hair as soon as they know their date! Summer weddings often book a year in advance, fall there is a bit more availability for short notice. Tip #2 - Get your hair ready to go To prep your hair, it is best to wash your hair the night before! (Do not come in for your appointment with wet hair, it will not hold curl, as it’s still holding a lot of moisture even after a good blow-dry! It also cuts into our time to perfect your style.) If you find your hair doesn’t hold well, apply some mousse from roots to ends. Either blow-dry or let air dry and it will be ready for us to work with in the morning! "it is best to wash your hair the night before!" – Nicole, The H Company Tip #3 - book a trial Booking a trial for your hair is up to you! A trial can help you decide what to you want done with your hair if you’re unsure what you want. A trial also helps us work with your hair and get a feel for what it needs to hold best from products to different hot tools. Tip #4 - give yourself time I like to book 1 hour per client. 1 hour may be more then enough for some but I rather have extra time then not enough! Tip #5 - best tip ever! I have had the pleasure of photographing this wonderful family for years! I have capture all three of their graduations and every year just gets more and more exciting! Despite the bugs, Casey rocked her session. She ventured through trees, ran in bare feet, and surrounded herself by branches to get the shots we wanted. She was a trooper! I am so honoured when families ask me back to capture another graduation. Years before I took her brother's grad photos and this year was Meghan's turn. We shot her session deep in the Pines were we were surrounded by moss that looked like fresh snow fall. To say it was beautiful, is understatement. I am so happy to share these images and I wish Meghan all the best in the future!

We spent the evening at Kristi Lake Trail, just outside of Prince Albert, SK. The light was so soft and beautiful, and when it reflected off of Darian's blue dress it created magic! Darian was so fun to shoot with and the session was so much fun! I wish Darian all the best in the future!

The evening was perfect! The sun was setting and the weather was warm. Along with his family, escort, and grandparents, We ventured to the outskirts of town to capture Gunner's grad photos. His family brought along not only Gunner's car, but dirt bike, and harley. These represented what Gunner was so passionate about. Having the Chance to capture such special memories for him and his family was truly and honour and I wish Gunner all the best in his future!
